HUNDREDS
OF AMERICA’S FINEST FELINES
TO
CONVERGE AT 2006 CFA-Iams CAT CHAMPIONSHIP
NEW YORK,
July 5, 2006 – More than 300 of
America’s finest
felines will be coming to New York to celebrate the 100th
anniversary of the Cat Fanciers’ Association, the world’s largest
registry of pedigreed cats, and to compete at America’s foremost
cat show, the 2006 CFA-Iams Cat Championship. The show will be
held in New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday, October
14 and Sunday, October 15.
The
cats will converge at the show to compete for the coveted title of
Best in Show. At the 2005 show, Grand Champion Marmese Cobalt, a
one-year-old Blue Point Siamese from Virginia, won the hearts of the judges and
thousands of New Yorkers to be named Best of the Best. Second
place runner up, was a shorthair Scottish Fold, Starrpawzs
Lancelot! of Blacpurl, from Kansas City, Missouri. Third place
runner up was 6-month old Mericat Wirey Coyote of Kyetrak, an
American Wirehair kitten from Georgia. (To learn more about the Best In Show
winner and the event, please visit
www.cfa-Iams-cat-championship.org.)
The show will place
the spotlight on more than 300 pedigreed cats representing 41
recognized breeds registered by the Cat Fanciers’ Association.
Among the breeds represented at the Show were Japanese Bobtail,
American Curl, Maine Coon, Egyptian Mau, Ragdoll, Cornish Rex,
Sphynx, and Persian.
Also returning to
this year’s show is a spectator favorite, the Feline Agility
Competition (FAC), a challenge that is sweeping the nation. Last
year’s competition was won by a 6-month-old Japanese Bobtail
kitten, Wyndchymes Intrigue of Hajja, who navigated a series of
eleven obstacles, including tunnels, stairs, poles and jumps, all
in 17 seconds.
